TOP TRAVEL TIPS

Here are our top three travel tips when visiting Amsterdam

1) Pre-purchase tickets where possible for museums and galleries as potentially there can be long queues for popular attractions.

Ticketed time slots are available at popular sights like the Anne Frank Huis and Van Gogh Museum and ideally should be booked far in advance. Use the Pogo travel planning app to create an Amsterdam pinboard to plan your trip as effectively as possible.

2) Prepare to pay a tourist tax whilst visiting Amsterdam which will be a fee of 12.5% based on  your accommodation cost, and is payable on arrival. You can even use the notes function on the Pogo travel app to remind you to plan ahead and factor the tax into your travel planning budget, as it's easy to forget about it when life is so busy and there are more fun things to plan into your trip itinerary.

3) Whilst most restaurants, bars and cultural establishments accept debit and credit cards,  some of the more traditional, older restaurants and bars like bruin cafés may not take cards at all. It's best to carry a mix of cash and cards so you don’t get caught out.
