Why visit Istanbul?

From mosques to monuments to markets, there’s no doubt that a trip to Istanbul will enrich, enlighten and invigorate.

Istanbul is an intriguing collection of juxtapositions - ancient and contemporary, East and West and this sprawling, cosmopolitan city blends all of the above seamlessly.

What to see in Istanbul

What to see in Istanbul

Can you say you have really been to Istanbul without a trip to the Istanbul's Bazaar District? It’s a dizzying and mesmerising fusion of chaos and colour - an intoxicating treat for all the senses.

The labyrinthine lanes of the Grand Bazaar are at the heart of İstanbul's Old City and have been so for centuries.

Where to stay in Istanbul

The Ritz-Carlton in Istanbul is not only superbly located at just a ten minutes walk from Taksim Square and the Dolmabache Palace, but it's also great when it comes to pricing too.

We found a three night break in December for just £834 for a king-sized room with a park view - and it comes with a Tempur-Pedic bed, rainfall shower and a deep soaking bath tub.

TOP TRAVEL TIPS

1) Dress appropriately - Istanbul is a diverse city and whilst in most instances respectful attire is appreciated, when you visit any religious sites such as mosques, it’s required that women should cover their heads with a scarf, and both men and women should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees.

2) Do haggle in markets and local shops- In Istanbul, it’s practically expected that potential customers will haggle. Whilst haggling is a common practice, be sure to negotiate prices in a friendly and respectful manner.

3) Whilst in most places, you are free to take as many photographs as you like, there are some places where there’s restrictions. Be mindful and respectful of the signs that indicate where photography is not allowed.
