What to do in San Francisco

San Francisco is small but mighty, but it certainly packs a punch when it comes to fun things to do. If you are wanting to get the most out out of your San Francisco trip itinerary then why not create a San Francisco Pinboard to plan your trip to San Francisco more effectively?

When you do, be sure to add a visit to the ‘Rock’ otherwise known as Alcatraz to your ’See & Do’ category on your Pinboard. This notorious former prison, is located on an island of the same name in the middle of San Francisco Bay and you will need to take a short boat ride over there. A tour around Alcatraz makes for a fascinating thing to do whilst in San Francisco and you will learn more about its history including the some of the United States’ most notorious criminals who were incarcerated there.

TOP TRAVEL TIPS

Here are our top three travel tips when planning a trip to San Francisco

1) Be sure to make a reservation at popular restaurants before you land in San Francisco. You can book most restaurants via their websites or via OpenTable or similar services. It’s also worth noting any dietary requirements too.

For the more casual eateries, you can just turn up and eat, but why not plan ahead and plot some restaurants and cafes to the ‘Eat & Drink’ category of your San Francisco Pinboard?

Most restaurants in San Francisco are open seven days a week, but some are closed on Sundays or Mondays. So it definitely is worthwhile checking and planning ahead.

2) If you are wondering what the tipping etiquette is in San Francisco, then you are in luck as we will break down what is the expected tip per service.

As a rule of thumb, you can fully expect to tip everywhere you go in San Francisco. If you buy a drink, you can expect to add on around $1 to $2 per drink, for restaurant servers, add on between 15-22% of the overall bill, taxi’s also tend to expect an additional tip of 10-15% of the cost of the fare and for hotel staff such as housekeeping, add between $2 to $5 dollars per day.

3) Getting around San Francisco is super fun, walking is one of the best and the least frustrating ways to hit the city, but whilst you are visiting San Francisco, you simply have to take a ride on one of the historic streetcars and / or iconic cable cars which adds even more kudos to your San Francisco experience!
