Why visit Athens

Athens is the epitome of reinvention and this spectacular city is the perfect blend of rich Greek history and culture while being modern and metropolitan at the same time.

Contemporary with old-world charm, Athens is a must for history and archaeology lovers and for those who dig (get it?!) museums and ancient ruins, but it also embraces the new with hipster cafes, vibrant street art and fun festivals.

From marvelling at the ancient citadels like the Acropolis and the Parthenon to enjoying open-air cinema nights and checking out the fantastic bar scene, Athens is most definitely a vibe and you can take advantage of this awesome city with a return flight from London for just £80!

What to do in Athens

What to do in Athens

Film buffs will rejoice in enjoying a night out at Athen’s legendary Cine Paris open air museum, which has been a true Athens institution since the 1920’s. However, you might find it hard to concentrate on the film itself as the cinema is best known for its striking Acropolis views.

From the latest Hollywood blockbusters to much-loved classics, Cine Paris makes for a fun night out and you can enjoy a cheeky beer at the same time as the sun sets over the film screen.

Make sure you add a trip to the open air cinema to your Athens Pinboard to the See & Do section and why not subscribe to Pogo Plus where you can take advantage of your very own AI-powered trip itinerary too!

TOP TRAVEL TIPS

Here are our top three travel tips when visiting Athens:

  1. Athens is a fantastic all-year round destination, but we can’t help but think that spring and autumn are two of the best seasons to enjoy the city. Summer can be unbearably hot and there’s even been cases of some of Athens' top attractions such as the Acropolis shutting its gates as it’s too hot.

  2. If you are planning a trip to Athens, then use Pogo Plus to create your travel itinerary which will schedule everything on your Athens Pinboard and more. Everything on your to do list is carefully plotted out for you to make the most of your time in the Greek capital. If you are asking the question ‘How much time should I spend in Athens?’ then we would recommend two to three days to get a real taste of the city. Why not plot a weekend escape to Athens as a stopover on the way to the Greek islands?

  3. If you are planning to visit the ancient citadels whilst visiting Athens, then make sure you book your tickets in advance and choose the time you visit wisely. They have a maximum visitors cap to avoid overcrowding, but despite this, it still can get quite busy, so why not consider going earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon instead?

If you love Athens as much as we do, then why not book your trip and see what it has to offer with Pogo? We have seen flights to the historic city of Athens from as little as £80!.
