TOP TRAVEL TIPS
Here are our top three travel tips when planning a trip to the Maldives:
Get your seaplane or speedboat on - When selecting your Maldives resort, definitely consider whether it’s accessible by seaplane or speedboat. Whilst both options are a lot of fun, it’s worth knowing that whilst seaplane rides offer stunning aerial views of the atolls, they do tend to be more expensive.
If you are more of a maximalist than minimalist when it comes to packing, definitely be mindful that there’s a luggage limit of 25kg (55lbs) per person on seaplanes. To save money, choose a resort near Malé that’s reachable by speedboat. Alternatively, you can take a domestic flight to a different atoll and then hop on a speedboat to your resort. When it comes to packing, use Pogo Pocket to double and triple check what you need - In most instances, there are no big stores on these tiny private islands. So, make sure you create a packing list to ensure you have everything you need, including reef-safe sunscreen to help protect one of the Maldives’ most precious natural habitats.
Consider the best time to visit the Maldives - The peak season in the Maldives runs from December to April, and prices during this time will definitely reflect that! While there are plenty of reasons to visit during peak season, with the amazing weather being the biggest draw.
Whilst the weather in the Maldives is generally lovely all year-round, if you're looking to save slightly on costs, then it’s definitely worth considering a trip outside of peak season.
