Why visit Krakow?
From its elegant cobbled lanes to its cosmopolitan culture, Krakow is fast becoming a city break that is on many travel planners' radar. Not only is it very affordable in terms of not just getting there, but for eating out, visiting attractions and nights out, but it’s also an extremely elegant and cultural city to visit.
With its stunning smorgasbord of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, wandering around the scenic Old Town is an absolute dream and its compactness makes it walkable which means it’s really easy to explore this beautiful city.
Some cities have speakeasies, Krakow is the home of the ‘lost bar’ which works on a similar principle. They are hidden drinking dens that have great vibes and even better cocktails. Our tip, head to Mercy Brown (which can be found via the cloakroom at the Smakolyki restaurant on Floriana Straszewskiego.
Simply make your way through the cloakroom and you will pass through a quaint hidden courtyard where you will find the brilliant Mercy Brown which is a true jazz age styled bar where you will be transported back to the roaring twenties.
Be sure to add it to the ‘See & Do’ section of your Krakow Pinboard as a must-visit when planning your trip to Krakow.
Where to stay in Krakow
We love the super-cool Wyndham Grand Krakow Old Town which as you have probably guessed is smack bang in the heart of the storybook setting of the Old Town and allows easy access to everything this stunning destination has to offer.
There’s also a fabulous spa which includes the chicest jacuzzi, an elegant bar and best of all you can take advantage of Pogo’s exclusive member rates where you can enjoy a two night break for just £311 for a two night stay.
TOP TRAVEL TIPS
Here are our top three travel tips when visiting Krakow
Discover the storied history of Poland’s former royal capital - Krakow is one of
Europe’s most beautiful cities, but it would be remiss not to acknowledge the abhorrent devastation that took place during the Second World War. Few will not visit Krakow without paying their respects at Auschwitz. It’s a confronting and emotional experience, but one that really has to be done.
Take a boat tour to explore the city from a different perspective - Why not see Krakow from a slightly more chilled-out perspective and take a tour along the Vistula River. Cruises tend to run between April through to September, so check the availability before you head down to the river. The more adventurous traveller can also hire a kayak or a paddle board and create your very own tour where you can set the pace and stop as many times as you like to get those insta-worthy photos.
Admire the street art of Krakow - Street art is HUGE in Krakow and a tour of the city will have you gazing upon a fascinating collection of street art at every turn. The Kazimierz district is where you will find most of it as well as a fabulous bar and restaurant scene.
You can even cross the Vistula river into the Podgorze district where you will see some colourful and impactful street art.
Don’t forget to upgrade your Pogo experience and subscribe to Pogo Plus where you can use Pogo Magic which will give you even more hotel discounts as well as giving you access to your very own AI-powered travel itinerary which will plot out a travel plan for you that is completely tailored to your likes and interests.
